JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shakeup at the Florida Department of Children and Famillies: David Abramowitz, the regional managing director of DCF’s Northeast region, abruptly resigned Wednesday.
Action News Jax reached out to DCF's main office in Tallahassee to learn more about why he quit. We're still waiting to hear back.
We did get a copy of an email sent by Deputy Director Bryan D. Hensley that read, in part, "David decided that it is time to take on new challenges. He feels that it is time for new leadership in our region."

Last year, Abramowitz was at the center of an investigation by the state Office of Inspector General. Abramowitz was accused of creating a hostile work environment and discriminating against women and blacks. He was cleared of the allegations, but the Inspector General did recommend he go through training, which he completed before he stepped down.
DCF has also been under fire for its handling of several high profile cases during his tenure:
-The agency investigated the Spirit family 18 times in eight years before police said Don Spirit shot and killed his six grandchildren and their mother, before killing himself at their home in Gilchrist County.
- Last month, the Fowler family filed a lawsuit against DCF after a grandmother and her three grandchildren were killed in an accidental fire in Oceanway. According to the lawsuit, DCF allowed the children to live in the home with the grandmother, who was a convicted sex offender with alleged mental health issues.
