JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Georgia Bulldogs have defeated the Florida Gators 34-7.
The rivalry between the bulldogs and gators continues another year, even when it comes to tailgating.
Action News Jax spoke with several football fans who went above and beyond Saturday morning. They shared their past, present and future tailgating plans.
Georgia fan Mario Johnson said he’s a pro at tailgating. After nine years, he knows what needs to happen and when.
“We start months ahead of time. We have to get everything done. We have to get all the food. We have to clean the food, season it,” Johnson said.
With plans to feed two to three hundred people, it takes a village.
Just one tailgate over, other Georgia fans made sure they had all the essentials for game day.
“We got our porta-potty, the most important thing,” Georgia fan Anna Fletcher said.
Across the parking lot at TIAA Bank Field, some gators shared their tailgate playbook with us.
“The biggest part is just getting passes,” Florida fan Trey Banco said.
“A lot of beverages, little food,” Florida fan Bob Hedick said.
As the Florida-Georgia game was in full swing Saturday, some people are already thinking ahead to next year.
With strong plans and execution, gators and bulldogs alike said their tailgates turned out great, but next game they’ll be even greater.
“Most importantly, plans for next year. Always looking to the future. We’re definitely going to get a whole hog, get it cooking on that grill,” Fletcher said.
“I would say if anything, maybe more of everything,” Banco said.
Others looking ahead to next year say they’re going to do the same exact thing.
“We’ve been here every year since ‘91,” Hedick said. “If it’s not broken, don’t try to fix it.”
In Johnson’s case, next year they’ll remember their speakers.
“We got somebody that’s bringing us some and that’s how we get along down here,” Johnson said.
