With little discussion Wednesday, a measure that would end the use of red-light cameras for traffic enforcement in Florida was put in position for a House vote on Thursday.
The proposal (HB 6007) to repeal a law known as the Mark Wandall Traffic Safety Act of 2010 has continued to advance even though a Senate version (SB 178) failed to get through its first committee last month.
The House measure is the latest effort to stop local governments from being able to impose $158 fines on the owners of vehicles caught on camera running red lights.
But local governments and red-light camera companies have fended off repeal attempts.
Some House leaders have long been critical of the cameras, which they say have become revenue generators for local governments.
