NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches Camp Sorensen is opening its doors to the community.
The grand opening event will take place on Sat., May 6. The community is being asked to join the grand opening to learn the story of Firehouse Subs co-founder Robin Sorensen and his wife, Tabitha, and their donation of a summer camp to the Youth Ranches.

This free open house event offers an inside look at the campus along with a free barbecue lunch. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Guests are invited to tour the camp, including camper cabins, the high ropes course, swimming pool, recreation fields and newly constructed chapel. Tours will be available until 2 p.m.
According to a released statement, “The mission of the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches is to prevent delinquency and develop lawful, resilient and productive citizens. Camp Sorensen has served over 800 youth in the last year and will be capable of serving over 1,500 this summer.”
This charitable nonprofit corporation was founded by the Sheriffs Association and operates three residential child-care campuses and three youth camps. Additionally, it provides community-based services to as many of Florida’s neglected, troubled children as funds will permit.

Voluntary contributions are the primary source of funding, especially thoughtful gifts made through special bequests in wills and trusts.
