Floridians still feeling the squeeze at the gas pump

Jacksonville, Fla. — It’s not exactly the news drivers want to hear.

Gas prices are creeping back up to the record highs we saw in March.

According to AAA, the current average price for a gallon of diesel fuel in Jacksonville is $5.64, just a penny shy of the highest price we saw on May 7.

The current average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $4.25.

The record for that was set on March 11 at $4.37 per gallon.

Jacksonville is still trending slightly lower than the state average, which is $4.28 for regular unleaded.

AAA says the reason for the increase is the high cost of crude oil.

This time last year, drivers were paying $2.87 for regular unleaded and $2.96 for diesel.
