Cases of the flu are on the rise across the country, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and local families are feeling the impact.
Doctors say that during week 50 Georgia and Colorado experienced high flu-like illness activity.
A parent, Bryanna White-Cara told Action News Jax both of her kids were battling the virus.
“I was in the doctor’s office in tears. The doctor had to calm me down,” she said.
Week 51 numbers from the Florida Department of Health showed activity increasing in Duval and Baker counties.

As of Thursday, a total of seven pediatric deaths nationwide had been blamed on the virus, according to health experts.
Doctors said this year’s flu vaccine is more effective, some families said they’re skeptical.
“I did get that, but I’m still having problems with it,” said Donald Guyton.
Parents and grandparents said their little ones are their biggest concern.
