JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A regional food bank said it can take significant steps in the fight to eradicate hunger in Northeast Florida if it reaches its campaign goal of $1 million in 2016.
Feeding Northeast Florida said the funds would allow the agency to expand its warehouse and continue toward its goal to distribute 40 million pounds of food, which would eradicate hunger in the area.
The food bank said last year it delivered 21 million pounds of food to its 17-county service area.
The food bank launched the campaign Friday and will hold a fundraising event on Feb. 25 at the Prime Osborn Convention Center.
About 50 chefs from around Jacksonville will hold the 'foodie' event, and 100 percent of proceeds will benefit the food bank.
