Bishop, an FHP veteran of more than 30 years, was killed after being hit by a car while investigating a car accident on I-75.

"I honor him today as a true hero," said Florida Governor Rick Scott, who attended the funeral.

Sky Action News Jax flew over the procession, which led from the church Bishop attended to the cemetery where he now rests.

Bishop leaves behind his wife, son, and a nation of grieving officers.

Fellow troopers are remembering him as a "trooper's sergeant" who acted as a mentor to younger troopers.

"He looked after his people, he cared about his people," said Lt. Eddie Elmore with FHP. "And that carried on to his care and love of his community, which is why he put in 30 years serving the citizens of Florida."
