JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — For years, the Church of Our Savior has wanted to build a sanctuary on this land, but the city didn't want that.
Now we know a settlement has been reached.
$290,000, that’s how much the city of Jacksonville Beach will owe in attorney’s fees to the Church of our Savior.
The city and the church have been at odds for years after the church of our savior, wanted to build a new church here, just off Beach Boulevard.
“We've been frustrated over the fact we could buy the land but we weren't able to use it and build on it,” said the Rev. David Ball.
The fight to build became an issue with zoning regulations, and the church sued for the right to build.

Now more than two years later the lawsuit was settled and the church got the go ahead to build.
“We've been very excited we found a place God had called us to plant a church and to build one and to grow it for our community,” said Ball.
Action News Jax spoke with neighbors who in the past didn’t want a church backing up to their yard, so we asked Ball about their concerns.
“There will be trees in between one of the agreements we wanted to do for the community is there will be a 7-foot buffer of vegetation between the houses and the church as well as a 6-foot opaque fence,”said Ball.
Action News Jax is waiting to hear back from the city for comment.
