JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Normally in the Restaurant Report we see reports of flies and roaches, and sometimes a rodent. This week a restaurant was found to have a wild bird inside.

Action News visited Flavors Essence of India on Baymeadows Road in Jacksonville. Inspectors found a dozen live roaches, roach droppings, and a wild bird present in the kitchen eating off the floor. The manager didn’t offer much information when asked what they did to clean up.

“I was not here actually, so I just came,” said the manager.

The restaurant manager called the owner, who assured Action News that Flavors Essence of India called in pest control the day they were closed to fix their issues.

At Mr. Taco on Bowden Road, health inspectors found live small flying insects in multiple areas, food temperature violations and food contact surfaces not sanitized before use. Inspectors noted the establishment needs a follow up inspection.

When inspectors traveled to Blue Bamboo on Southside Boulevard, they found temperature violations, a menu that didn’t identify which items contained raw animal foods and no materials to properly wash hands at the employee hand wash sink.
