JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Port Authority is continuing efforts to grow transportation and supply chain management.

Monday, Jaxport outlined its progress to a five-year strategic master plan.

Jaxport Board Vice-chair Daniel Bean named a few initiatives marking Jaxport’s progress in that plan.

“New business across all key cargo types, completion of major growth projects, you might have heard about those and then investments that are making cargo operations cleaner and greener for the community,” said Daniel Bean.

Jaxport CEO Eric Green noted the focus is on diversifying business and looking at a strategic growth.

“When you really begin to give our community, the people of our community good paying jobs,” said Green.

Green said Jaxport has added 4 new container services in the last 18 months, and the newest addition is the port’s first direct container service with Europe.

In the fiscal year 2022, Jaxport moved nearly 1.3 million containers, maintaining its position as Florida’s largest container port and one of the top 10 container ports in the nation.

That cargo activity supports 138,000 jobs and $31 billion in annual economic output for the region and state.

Last May, Jaxport completed deepening the ship channel to 47 feet, and another 42-million-dollar project will raise the power lines over the St. Johns’ river all to handle larger ships.

Green said it all positions Jaxport for the future.

“We continue to shop that transatlantic, transpacific market which is what our customers and what our community needs,” said Green.

The five-year plan will be complete in 2025. With the goal to continue to bring in cargo, and provide supply chain solutions, while also creating more jobs.
