DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — A new project is making sure women veterans and their children have a place to rest their heads.
It’s called “HerSPACE” and it will provide temporary emergency housing for those experiencing homelessness.
This summer, “The Lighthouse,” a 4-bedroom, 3,000 square foot house in Jacksonville Beach, will be the temporary home for up to eight women veterans and their children.
During their stay, they will be given guidance by Northeast Florida Women Veterans, which operates as a resource center for women veterans, to help get them back on their feet and into long-term housing.

“We are excited about this new project. We can now provide immediate shelter to women veterans in need and it’s what we have been praying for” Dee Quaranta, President/CEO of Northeast Florida Women Veterans, said.
The project is a partnership with St. Andrews Lutheran Church By The Sea, which is donating use of the facility, as well as other Jacksonville area organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, which are donating to the cause.
An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at the facility located at 1797 Beach Boulevard on April 15 at 10 a.m.
