Jerry Williams spoke with us after visiting his wife, Sandra Williams, in the hospital.

"She was shot in the chest, and a bullet ricocheted right here," Jerry Williams said.

Badly wounded and locked in her trunk, Sandra Williams made a 911 call around 10:20 p.m. Monday. She eventually escaped by using the emergency trunk release.

Sandra Williams also made other calls to her family. Her son eventually found her near a wooded area.

"The female victim's will to live and survive helped her survive a very deadly situation," said Major Chris Tatum of the Waycross Police Department.

Investigators found Sandra Williams' car with her friend Timothy Williams' body inside.

Police later tracked down and arrested the accused shooter Leon Pugh on murder and aggravated assault charges.

We dug into Pugh's criminal history and discovered he served a prison sentence from 1996 to 2005 with the Georgia Department of Corrections on a burglary charge.
