The race between Howland and his former opponent, Dr. Tracye Polson, had been tight.
Action News Jax was at Polson’s watch party Tuesday night at the Bread and Board in Downtown Jacksonville.
Polson was seen hugging and thanking her supporters inside her watch party.
Just before her concession speech, not long after she arrived, Polson’s campaign staff kicked all media out of the venue, despite Polson telling stations yesterday that crews could be at her watch party.

Polson briefly interviewed with stations outside after she gave her supporters a speech.
Action News Jax asked Polson why her campaign staff didn’t allow crews inside for the speech.
“I think it was an emotional night, and we just wanted to have an opportunity to really talk to our team,” Polson responded.

Polson also commented on how tough a special election is, especially one without a president or governor on the ballot.
“I am so, so grateful for every person who voted for me. I am so incredibly proud of the campaign that we ran, of our message, of the way we conducted ourselves every step of the way,” she added.
Polson says she plans to continue helping people in Duval County.
