Italian restaurant in St. Augustine cited for flies in kitchen

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Benitos Italian Café and Pizzeria in St. Augustine was cited by the city health department for 27 violations this week.

A health inspector saw flies in the kitchen and issued a stop sale on cold pizza items like marinara, ham, beef and ricotta cheese that were being held too warm. Inspectors noted there was no hot water at the employee hand wash sink. A follow-up inspection is required.

At Okinawa Japanese Grill House and Sushi Bar, an inspector measured scallops, shrimp, steak and chicken that was held too warm. The inspector witnessed an employee wash his hands with no soap and saw food not protected from contamination. A follow-up inspection is required.

Inspectors visited El Potro Mexican Restaurant in Jacksonville Beach. The inspector issued a stop sale on rice and chili, saw raw chicken and raw shrimp not properly separated and measured temperature violations for shredded cheese. At the follow-up inspection, all issues had been properly addressed or fixed.
