Jacksonville area baby bald eagles officially named

The two bald eagle chicks in the Jacksonville area that are part of the Eagle Nest Cam provided by the American Eagle Foundation have been named.

The first chick, now named Sky, hatched on Dec. 9, and the second chick, Spirit, hatched on Dec. 11.

Remote camera operators help capture the cycle of nest restoration, egg laying, hatching and raising of the offspring by the parent eagles, named Romeo and Juliet, who return to the nest each year.

According to AEF, bald eagles usually mate for life.

The Northeast Florida Eagle Cam, which features the family of four, is in an undisclosed location in the Jacksonville viewing area.
