JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cooking Thanksgiving dinner sent a local man to the hospital.

Kenny Cauvel was attempting to deep-fry his turkey when he was badly burned.

“My father-in-law handed me the little hook for the turkey,” Cauvel said.

As he was holding it up, the oil splashed, he lost his grip, and the turkey dropped.

“The grease went everywhere,” he said.

It splashed all over Cauvel’s hands and arms. He was sent to UF Health Shands Burn Center in Gainesville and treated for second degree burns.

“Make sure you submerge it slowly, and make sure the temperature isn’t too high because otherwise, you can end up like this,” Cauvel said.

It’s a Thanksgiving tradition he’ll keep around – but he said he’ll let someone else fry the turkey from now on.

“I’m done frying turkeys,” Cauvel said.
