A couple says they found a sharp blade in their take-out order from Kickbacks, the popular pub in the Riverside neighborhood in Jacksonville.
The restaurant is now admitting it's mistake after reportedly calling the police on the couple who complained.
Ashley McKinnies said she’s skeptical about the apology she received from the owner of the pub because it didn’t happen until after Kickbacks received an overwhelming response on Facebook about the situation.
"What is this and how did someone miss it? This is gross,” said McKinnie about her initial thought when she went to eat her leftovers from the pub and found the blade in her food. "I said ‘what is this black thing in my food’, and I pulled it out and it was an entire blade."
She said her husband then called the restaurant, and when they didn’t hear back they drove over to get a refund.
When the couple got there, McKinnies said the manager tried take the blade from them to later show the owner.
"I didn't want them to take the only things I had saying that this happened,” said McKinnies.
The couple told Action News Jax a cop then showed up and asked them to leave the restaurant.
"That was disheartening, embarrassing and frustrating,” said McKinnies.
McKinnies then took to social media, telling friends about the blade.
Steve Flores, the owner of Kickbacks, said he regrets that it happened and called it an unfortunate situation.
According to Flores, the blade that was found seems to match one that goes into a dicer at the restaurant, but he says they don't use this tool anymore.
Flores also said that at first he thought it was a scam, but now is apologizing and wants to figure out how the blade ended up in the McKinnie’s’ food.
"It's seems very contradictory that they would want to apologize after so much response," said McKinnies in response to Flores' apology.
