A local father contacted Action News Jax after finding a bullet lodged in his roof while he was putting up his Christmas decorations over the weekend.

"I was putting up Christmas lights on the roof and I noticed something sticking out of one of the shingles," says Raul Patton.

"I found the bullet directly over her bedroom, which is pretty concerning to say the least," says Patton.

Patton said finding the bullet was a little frightening considering the fact that his 6-year-old daughter sleeps close by.

Patton said a neighbor a few blocks away had something similar happen at his home nearly a year ago.

"There was a bullet hole through the roof of his shed, and it actually penetrated the shed and went through a couple of his surfboards," said Patton.

Patton said he can only speculate about what may have happened.

"Based on how I found the bullet and the way it was, it had a downward angle into the roof, I would imagine that there are people during holidays like Independence Day or maybe New Year's, people go outside and shoot guns," says Patton.

A spokesperson with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says that filing a police report about something like this could be helpful, especially if there could be a possible trend.

JSO wouldn't be able to put those pieces together without being notified.
