Jacksonville drivers frustrated by traffic on Town Center Parkway

Drivers on Town Center Parkway are tired of being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

Drivers said shoppers always bring more congestion to the St. Johns Town Center, but now more businesses are being built right across the street.

“It was terrible. I had to do a few U-turns, because I don’t want to sit in that to go to one store for five minutes,” said driver Sydney Cannon.

It took us only 3 minutes and 25 seconds to get from the Publix on St. Johns Bluff Road to the CVS around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

We drove the same route at lunchtime and it took 11 minutes and 11 seconds. At rush hour, it only gets worse.

“It’s horrible. It takes awhile to get to work. You have to plan accordingly,” said driver Matthew Montemurno.

Orange cones line the road and as you near Gate Parkway, cars are forced to merge.

This is where neighbors say things get complicated.

Who is responsible for coming up with a solution?

The Florida Department of Transportation said it’s not a state road, so it’s not involved.

We contacted the city's traffic engineering division and were told that officials aren't sure if the construction issue is theirs.

We also called the Jacksonville City councilmember for this area and left a message.

“It takes probably an extra 20 to 25 minutes,” said Montemurno.

Some drivers said they go through the Town Center to avoid being on Town Center Parkway.

What can you do? The city of Jacksonville said residents can call or email the traffic engineering division and an assessment will be done to determine the next steps.
