JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cockroaches coming out of vents, walking up and down walls and living in cupboards -- a Jacksonville family says these conditions in their new apartment make it unlivable.
They were hoping to have more space, but instead they say they have unwanted company.
Elaine, the mother, said she didn't want her or her family identified.
"I'm trying to be brave for my kids, but then I start crying and it really sucks," Elaine said.
Elaine said she's struggling to make it through this holiday season.
"Coachroaches. They are under the carpet," Elaine said.
Elaine says she finds cockroaches everywhere.
She said she has taken photos to document the problem. Elaine has lived in her new apartment for one week and says she's seen hundreds of cockroaches.
“It's approximately 10 to 20 an hour that we will see, smash or kill or try to catch,” Elaine said.
She says two of her four children are allergic to cockroaches.
Elaine isn't the only one with complaints.
Three other residents have also filed complaints through the City of Jacksonville's 630 City Website.
Although, the Municipal Code Compliance Division says there is no active issues at the property, Action News Jax contacted the Courtney Manor Apartments manager. The manager supplied their corporate line. Action News Jax has not received a response back.
"I feel like they don't care," Elaine said.
Elaine said at night it's awful because they spot more cockroaches, and her children are terrified to fall asleep.
Instead of enjoying Christmas in their living room, Elaine said her family spent the night in their car due to the infestation of cockroaches.
