A Jacksonville father was shot several times by BB guns on his way to work Monday morning and now he wants to warn other people in the area to be alert.

Tauren Bartley was riding his bike to the bus station for work on Labor Day when he said he was attacked in the Brentwood area.

He said he saw a car slowing down while he was riding on Boulevard Street and then the car came to a stop.

"Then two males jumped out, they slowly started approaching me. Good thing I was aware," Bartley said.

That's when he said he started pedaling faster on his bike.

"Next thing I know they were shooting BBs at me,” Bartley said.

He said at first he thought the young men pointed real guns at him.

"When I took the shot in the back and heard from the sounds, I realized they were BB’s," Bartley said.

Three BB pellets ended up hitting Bartley, leaving welts on his side and back.

"I have kids of my own. What if those weren't BB guns and I died this morning?" Bartley said.

He had a message for the young men responsible.

"You're really shortening your days doing stupid stuff because it really takes only one mistake to mess up your whole life," Bartley said.

Bartley said the young men were in a white four door car with a sunroof.
