JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville City Council has passed a resolution honoring nearly 2,000 local poll workers and recognizing August 11 as National Poll Worker Recruitment Day.
Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland announced the formal recognition, which commends election workers for their service during local elections.

The U.S. Election Assistance Commission established National Poll Worker Recruitment Day in 2020 to promote civic engagement and recruit community members to assist at polling sites.
Poll workers prepare voting locations, verify voter registrations, hand out ballots and assist voters during early voting periods and on Election Day.
The celebration on Aug. 11 marks Duval County’s sixth year participating in the national initiative. The resolution encourages eligible residents to consider applying to become poll workers for future elections.

The Jacksonville City Council is scheduled to hold a formal presentation to honor poll workers on Sept. 8 during its 5 p.m. meeting.
