A Jacksonville mother is desperate to find out what led her son to shoot his lover's husband and then himself on Saturday.

Lance Norman, 33, was on the run after police said he shot and killed his girlfriend's 61-year-old husband outside his apartment Saturday morning.

Police found Norman nearly 12 hours later at an abandoned home near his Toyota Prius.

Police said Norman shot himself as officers entered the home.

“Everyone says, 'That isn’t Lance, that’s not him,'” his mom Earline Norman said.

Earline Norman said she can’t understand why her son not only took someone’s life, but then tried to take his own.

She said her son was a former Marine who loved his country.

She said he suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

“He had to have been provoked or felt menaced in some way to have pulled the gun on someone,” she said.

Norman’s mother said he was married but had been separated from his wife for months.

She said he was dating Keeble Grant’s wife. She said she was told the two were also separated.

“Something happened to Lance to leave this house in a rush, leaving his dinner at his table, a lit candle that he never does, and his door unlocked and gone and not a word to anyone,” she said.

Police said Lance Norman and the woman worked together.

Lance Norman is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

His mother said doctors told her there’s a 99 percent chance he will not make it.
