JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The U.S. Attorney’s Office has indicted a Jacksonville mother of five who is accused of child sex trafficking.

If convicted, Lisa Glass could face life in federal prison.

The indictment said the trafficking happened in Duval and Clay Counties from approximately May through September of 2015.

“What’s happening in her life that’s pushed her to these kind of decisions that will be impacting her children?” said Lawanda Ravoira, president and CEO of the Delores Barr Weaver Policy Center, which advocates for human trafficking victims.

Glass was released from the Duval County Jail a few days ago after pleading guilty to prostitution.

Glass also pleaded guilty to drug charges in Clay County in 2015.

“They often use drugs and alcohol as a way of self-medicating. And it sounds like this is a woman whose life has spiraled out of control,” said Ravoira.

One of Glass’ three teenage daughters, Ashley Glass, sent Action News Jax a Facebook message about her mother.

It says in part,

She is my bestfriend, & no matter what i will not ever stop loving her. After my dad left, my mom started drinking & it resorted to worse things. Yes, what my mom did was wrong, but that is not the mom I know."

The governor’s budget this year recommends funding to launch the new “Open Doors” network, which would immediately connect human trafficking survivors to the resources they need.
