A Jacksonville woman says the Department of Children and Families accused her of abandoning her daughter in a case of mistaken identity.

Norma Martinez said she got a call from a DCF investigator Monday night.

It said her daughter Soleil Martinez was in trouble after she was caught stealing from a Walmart in Orlando.

“I called them and they told me, 'You abandoned your daughter in Orange County. She was caught stealing,'" Martinez said. "I said, ‘That cannot be because my daughter's with me right now.’”

Martinez said the whole situation was strange.

She said she couldn’t get information from DCF so she called the juvenile detention center in Orlando.

A spokesperson told her a girl with the same name as her daughter was admitted there, but had a different birth date.

Martinez said DCF eventually told her they made a mistake and called the wrong family.

She said she asked for a written apology but they denied her one.

Action News Jax called DCF in Orlando and a spokesperson said it’s up to the discretion of the person she talked with to decide whether to issue an apology or not.
