JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Thursday released officer body-worn camera video from an August shooting in which a man was killed after police say he pulled a gun on an officer.
The video from Aug. 18 shows the officer, Sgt. Ray, and the man, 45-year-old Christopher Ford in a standoff, each holding guns.

According to JSO, Ford approached Ray and then pulled out a gun and as he was backing up, Ford fired one shot at the officer but it went wide and hit the building behind Ray.
Ray then fired back, hitting Ford. Another officer’s body-worn camera video shows other officers who were inside the stop station run out to help Ray after they heard shots fired.

Officers are seen on the video putting on gloves and handcuffing Ford as they prepared to render first aid. Ford was taken to a local hospital, but he later died.
After the shooting, Ray was placed on administrative leave. If Ford had lived, JSO said he would have been charged with attempted first-degree murder.

JSO said the State Attorney’s Office will independently review the incident to assess the legality of the officer’s actions. JSO said it will then conduct an internal review to ensure the officer acted within policy.
