The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said three people are dead after a reported shooting Wednesday afternoon at the Monterey condo complex in the 12100 block of Beach Boulevard.

JSO said police were called to the complex earlier Wednesday in reference to a person shot. Police said three people were found dead inside a condo -- a man and a woman in their 50s to 60s and a woman who looked to be 25 to 35 years old.

Police said they are investigating the deaths as an apparent murder-suicide.

A source told Action News Jax that a man shot and killed his wife and daughter, but police could not confirm that at this time.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots inside the Monterey Condos, moments before police swarmed the apartment complex.

“This has been a safe neighborhood, and we really haven’t had any problems,” said Charles Boatright.

Boatright said that sense of safety was rocked Wednesday afternoon.

“It’s absolutely horrible to hear, something like that,” said Boatright.

Another neighbor tells Action News Jax she was at home when the shooting happened. In a Facebook message, she said, "I live across the street. All I heard was screaming and gunshots from my apartment.”

The neighbor also said, “Yes, I heard a woman scream and then the gun went off.”

Someone claiming to be a close friend of the family told Action News Jax the male victim was going through a divorce and was having a tough time coping.
