Mandarin homeowners tell Action News Jax heavy rains cause their neighborhood to flood with storm water.
They say the city’s drainage system is to blame.
Some neighbors are taking matters into their hands by placing sandbags out front to keep water out of their garages.
"It will flood into my garage it will have standing water in the yard floods into my neighbors yards," said Kael Pickren, Mandarin homeowner.
Action News Jax found standing water in the drainage ditches. Neighbors on Tan Street in Mandarin say the encroaching water comes into their homes.
They fear it could damage their property.
"Several tools are on pallets or on elevated surfaces to keep them out of the water from when it floods," said Pickren.
One neighbor sent an email to the city requesting service on May 24.
COJ replied saying the ticket would be processed.
Months later, homeowners tell us it's as bad as ever.
They want the city to do something about it.
"Fix the culverts. Mine is leaking, which has an active complaint with the city currently," he said.
We emailed city spokesperson Tia Ford for a timeline on a resolution.
She gave us the following statement:
“Public works is aware of these concerns. They have a crew scheduled to remove blockages that may be impacting the roadside ditches in that area.”
Ford also states there is a higher than usual call volume due to weather events in the summertime.
Neighbors hope the solution is on the horizon.
