JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man and woman who were having an affair conspired to commit murder, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. The victim's husband, Jerry Burns promised Amanda Love $5,000 to transport suspects to the scene to commit the murder.

On Tuesday, May 8 at 1:20 p.m., the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was dispatched to Doris Lane after reports of a person found dead inside. Upon arrival, they found Velvet Burns stabbed to death inside the home.

Jerry Burns told detectives on the day of the murder that he had left at 3 a.m. for work In Tallahasse. Amanda Love was later found to be in possession of the victim’s property and was at the crime scene that morning.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office determined that Jerry Burns had promised Love more money after the murder, coming from the victim's life insurance policy. They also determined that he wanted the murder to look like a burglary.

Both have been charged with second degree murder, according to police.

An active investigation is underway.

Monday, Velvet Burns’ daughter shared a Facebook post about the case.

Action News Jax is not providing her name for her protection, but she wrote in part, “We are grieving the tragic loss of our perfect angel… and are trying to get through this horrible time. We are glad there has been some justice for our momma, but this is far from over.”

One neighbor didn’t want to show her face, with killers still out there.

“She was a very quiet lady, very involved with her kids,” she said.  “Very sweet, loving, and it seemed like your typical, all-around family.”

That neighbor said from the outside, this appeared to be a happy family.

“It’s horrible,” she said.  “My heart breaks for the kids, because not only have they lost their mother, they don’t have a father now, either.  He made that decision.”
