JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested one of its own officers, Michael Schrum, on a domestic battery charge Tuesday.
Schrum, who had been with the agency for nearly seven years, was taken into custody following an internal investigation of an incident that occurred on Sept. 16.
Sheriff T.K. Waters announced the department is moving to fire Schrum, who has already been stripped of his police powers, saying expectations for police officers are as high as or higher than those for civilians and that no one is above the law.
“When a member of this agency violates the law, that person will be held accountable,” Waters said. “(That person) does not need to be a police officer anymore.”
Investigators said a woman reported that Schrum got drunk, became angry and struck her several times, leaving her with visible injuries.
The case, which was investigated by the agency’s own integrity detectives, marks the ninth arrest of a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer.
