A Jacksonville teenager has been arrested after police say he stabbed his sleeping parents.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a press release the 16-year-old faces charges of two counts of aggravated battery after he reportedly stabbed his sleeping parents early Wednesday morning.

Action News Jax learned that he allegedly told early morning churchgoers that someone broke into his family’s apartment and stabbed his parents, and that he was running from that person.

Police said the victims were stabbed in the head and neck areas with a knife. Both victims fought the teenager and fled the scene, police added.

A police report said the teen ran to a nearby church.

Those witnesses say authorities told them to bring the teen back to the apartment.

Police said the teen later confessed to the stabbing.
