Just before halftime, a New Orleans field goal after a Saints’ QB Zach Wilson 28-yard strike to Bub Means has given the Saints a 14-pont lead over the Jaguars, 20-6, as the teams headed to the break.
Midway through the second quarter, Saints backup QB Spencer Rattler - who is battling Wilson for the No. 2 role - drove the team 54 yards. That helped kicker Tanner Brown earn a leg up in a kicking competition by nailing a 49-yard FG and then closing the half with a 29-yard field goal.
In the first quarter, the Saints returned the opening kickoff inside the Jaguars’ 20. A play later, New Orleans RB Audric Estimé found the end zone, give the Saints a very early 7-0 lead.
Later in the first quarter, kicker Cam Little booted a pair of FGs, from 54 and 32 yards out, narrowing the Saints’ lead to 7-6.
The Jaguars defense had forced a sack-fumble in Saints territory before Little hit his second of two FGs.
Both Jaguars backup QBs, Nick Mullins and Carter Bradley, have thrown interceptions in the game.
