A Jacksonville International Airport custodian is facing grand theft charges after being accused of stealing a guitar inside the baggage claim area of the airport on Christmas day. A police report says Ike Pernell took the expensive guitar after it was mistakenly left behind by a passenger. The report said he eventually loaded it into his car.
Police confronted him in the parking lot before he was able to leave with it, saying they had the whole thing on video. Under normal protocol, the report said he should not have touched the guitar and should have informed authorities about the unattended bag.
The victim did get the Gibson guitar back, which is worth about $2,500.
