JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office congratulated one of its officer Wednesday after she came to the rescue a recently orphaned fawn.
Officer Misty Turner responded to the scene of a crash involving a vehicle and a deer around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Lem Turner and I-295.
Police say the deer that was killed was pregnant and after impact gave birth to a fawn.
Turner took the baby deer to a local store looking for food and other necessities for the orphaned animal.
An employee of the feed store that helped the officer says Turner went above and beyond the call of duty by caring for the fawn.
The baby deer involved in the incident appears to be in good health.
It is now being taken care of at a local animal foster facility.
