Westside — The city of Jacksonville is stepping up to make sure our most vulnerable get vaccinated.

Action News Jax Alicia Tarancon spent the morning on the northside at the Clanzel T. Brown Community Center.

Herbert Brown woke up early, so he could claim his spot in line at the community center.

“There were so many uncertainties of how to get it, where to go and then the lines, Brown said.

Now after waiting month he’ll join 500 people getting their first dose of the vaccine on Friday. This new vaccination site will be running for two days only on Jacksonville’s northside.

Seniors that have issues getting here can also get free transportation with help from JTA.

“ReadiRide will schedule that appointment, pick them up at their house and drop them right off at this senior center,” David Cawton, a spokesperson with JTA said.

ReadiRide is a free service and all seniors have to do is just show ID and they’ll get transportation from their home to the Clanzel T. Brown Community Center.

Cawton said if seniors don’t want to use ReadiRide they can also use JTA’s bus service route 3, their Moncrief route.

“Moncrief route 3 is one of our busy routes, we saw an opportunity to assist community when the city of Jacksonville decided that this was going to be a site that they could help folks access the vaccine,” Cawton said.

ReadiRide is also available to help seniors in Arlington who need to get to the regency site for their vaccine.

Most of the seniors we spoke with drove or were dropped off to get their shot.

While Brown only lives a mile and half down the street from the community center and has a car he believes something like this JTA service is greatly appreciated.

“That’s great, that’s very great,” Brown said.

To book an appointment call (904) 679-4555. The free ReadiRide service is being provided to the Clanzel T. Brown community center Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
