Every week Action News Jax investigates local child care centers to show you how they measure up to state guidelines. In this week’s Kid Care Report anchor Letisha Bereola shows you a child care center that was cited for problems with its transportation service.
A Department of Children and Families inspector found eight violations at Tutor Time Learning Center on Lady Lake Road in Oceanway.
The center had 21 employees working with 124 children during the state inspector’s visit.
It also picked up two class 2 violations, which, according to DCF, could pose a threat to the health and safety of a child for:
- A driver failing to keep up the transportation log (the log verifies each child made it to their destination. )
- The driver didn’t have an updated annual physical that grants them medical approval to drive.
Tutor Time Learning Center also received six class 3 violations, which, according to DCF, poses a low threat for harm to children. Those were for issues ranging from a handwashing sink without hot water to bathroom toilets not being in good repair.
Bereola contacted its corporate office to see if its back in compliance. We will update this story when we hear back from them.
The second day care in this week’s Kid Care Report is the Learning Tree Preschool Center in San Jose. Its last six inspections have been violation free.
Bereola spoke with its director who said her team pulls off consistent clean inspections because good practices are a way of life at the day care -- not just when the inspector drops in.
