Kids get to smile for picture day at another local school after Action News Jax investigation

An Action News Jax investigation is getting results for local families.

Since our Paige Kelton uncovered local students living in low income areas were being excluded from school picture day, the community response has been overwhelming.

Now, another local school was able to participate in picture day.

Since our story aired a little more than a week ago, dozens of local photographers have stepped forward to offer their services to schools that have gone years without class pictures.

Now, the woman who inspired our first story got the picture she was so desperate to have. Sandra Taylor was heartbroken when she got photos of her grandson in Nassau County, but none of her son.

After a month long investigation, we created a map of Duval County schools that didn't offer picture day. Most were in Jacksonville’s low income neighborhoods.

Fast forward a week and a half. Three local schools have now had picture day.

We took you to Rufus E. Payne, where teachers told us they hadn't had pictures in years.

Martin Luther King Jr. Academy welcomed us in, students bubbling over with excitement.

On Monday, John Love Elementary held picture day. The principal refused to even talk to us and they wouldn't let us in.

But Taylor said her son was ready to go. She posted pictures of her second grader sporting a new shirt and tie, ready to smile for the camera, just in time for the end of the school year.

Just a few hours ago, we got word that R.L. Brown Elementary will have picture day on Thursday.
