LAKE CITY, Fla. — The Lake City Police Department is once again going pink throughout October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month - and making a few upgrades to its efforts.
Now in its fourth year, the department is making additions to its campaign. Officers will wear pink badges and outfit K9s with specially designed pink badges. Non-sworn members of the department will participate by wearing pink lapel ribbons.
The department is also introducing an updated “Pinkie.” A new LCPD patrol car was recently wrapped with pink graphics, giving the department’s signature breast cancer awareness vehicle a fresh look while continuing a tradition that has become recognizable throughout the community.
The initiative is intended to encourage awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, while showing support for those affected by the disease, including survivors and their families.
“Each year, our ‘Goes Pink’ campaign gives our department an opportunity to show our support for those affected by breast cancer,” said Chief Gerald Butler.
