LAKE CITY, Fla. — Lake City police arrested a man Sunday who was wanted on a Pasco County warrant for second-degree murder.
Officers located Ivan Aguilera Torres at the Regal Inn on West U.S. Highway 90 following a request for assistance from Pasco County investigators.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office contacted local police early Sunday morning after learning Torres was believed to be staying at a hotel in Lake City. Officers searched several area hotels before identifying his location.
After locating Torres, officers established a perimeter around his hotel room at 2987 West U.S. Highway 90 and ordered him to exit. Torres stepped out of the room with his hands raised, followed officers’ instructions and was arrested without incident.
Torres was booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility on the Pasco County warrant. The underlying homicide investigation remains under the jurisdiction of the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler commended the responding officers and hotel workers following the operation. “Our officers worked quickly and methodically to locate a suspect wanted for a serious violent crime,” Butler said. “Their coordination with Pasco County and the cooperation of local hotel staff resulted in a safe arrest without injury to the public, the suspect, or our officers.”
