JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News is uncovering potentially dangerous guardrails on local highways.
This week a Federal Judge ordered a company called Trinity Industries to pay out more than $660,000,000. The fine is over the company failing to tell the government about design changes to those rails.

Most guardrails are about 5 inches thick, but the protective pieces creating the concerns are four inches.
Experts say that 1 inch difference could cause the guardrails to act as a spear going through a car, instead of safely bowing out of the way.
FDOT Spokesman Ron Tittle told Action News the guardrails are staying put locally, for now.

“We don’t see any recalls that we have to do right now, we are asking for a retest,” Tittle said
Despite the outcome of recent a federal lawsuit, Tittle says there are no specific concerns statewide for these rails.
