JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A teen hurt in what police say was a hit-and-run crash needs new help recovering from his injuries.

Eighteen-year-old Matthew Maloney was hurt when a suspected car thief slammed into him in July.

Kellie Maloney issued a call for help in a Facebook post. In a message Tuesday morning, she asked people to pray for her son.

Action News Jax first told you about Matthew in July after he was hit by a driver.

Deputies allege Eric Roenisch stole a car from a local family, drove down Blanding Boulevard where he hit Matthew and kept going. The driver was taken into custody shortly after.

Weeks later, Matthew is still recovering but his mom says he is being discharged Friday because his insurance won’t cover him anymore, or help out with home therapy or transportation.

Family members told Action News Jax Tuesday his mom took him outside for the first time since the hit-and-run.
