The page, titled “Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense,” received numerous comments from around the world after the woman’s story of getting shot by her son spread via sites like The New York Daily News and London’s Daily Mail.
Gilt, 31, was reportedly accidentally shot Tuesday while driving a truck with her 4-year-old son in the back seat. A round from a .45 caliber handgun — reportedly fired from the 4-year-old — went through the driver's seat and into Gilt's body.
It's possible that Gilt could face a misdemeanor charge for allowing the child access to a loaded firearm.
Deputies found Gilt with a bullet wound inside her truck with a horse trailer on the back stopped in travel lanes on a highway. She was on her way to pick up a horse, according to deputies.
Putnam County authorities released a statement Wednesday saying they have not gotten a chance to talk to Gilt, who was hospitalized at UF Health in Gainesville. Her son is with relatives.
Deputies said the Department of Children and Family Services are also reviewing the case.
