Local non-profits distribute supplies to families affected by Matthew

Hurricane Matthew has come and gone through our area and left many families struggling to make ends meet.

“Financially, things have been a little strained because of the storm, trying to buy things that you need and that you don’t always use every day,” said Jerome Downs.

Families will also be given Gatorade, water and blankets.

That’s why Lutheran Social Services and Farm Share paired up to distribute food, water and supplies to those like Jerome Downs.

“One thing they’re going to get here is  four boxes of food to every family. It has Pop-Tarts and vegetables, couple of soups,” said Coordinator Jason Clark.

LSS and Farm Share said they had enough supplies to serve 300 families.

LSS said that if you have any extra canned goods that you stocked up on for Matthew, but feel you don’t need, you can donate them and they’ll be used to help others in our area.
