NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Firefighters and police officers were the heroes on the front lines of the Nassau County wildfire, but a local rancher was right there with them.

Jodi Coxwell owns a ranch just outside Bryceville.

“They knocked on her door and said 'You have a few minutes to get out,'” Coxwell said of one of the evacuees. “And, of course, she was frantic.”

Coxwell has been keeping the animals at her ranch. She said she’ll be returning them to their owners once their owners return home themselves.

She downplayed the rescues and said her neighbors would do the same for her.
