JACKSONVILLE — Action News Jax has obtained the autopsy report following the death of Jacksonville native and former NFL football player, Louis Nix III.
Nix’s body was found February 27 after police pulled his submerged vehicle from a pond on Broxton Bay Drive.
According to the JSO incident report, Nix’s mother, Stephanie Wingfield, reported her son missing on Feb. 24. Wingfield told detectives she “has not received a phone call from her son in a couple of days, which is unusual of him.”
Now, a toxicology report reveals that Nix was in fact intoxicated at the time. The medical examiner says Nix’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was over twice the legal limit at .192. The medical examiner also found small amounts of T-H-C in his system.
The incident report also includes a statement from his girlfriend, Ketarah Reed, explaining to police she suspected Nix was intoxicated “due to the sound of his voice and choice of affectionate words” during a phone call he made to her. She told police he was on his way to her apartment but never showed up.
His official cause of death is accidental drowning.
