Major stormwater project completed in Downtown Fernandina Beach

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. — Construction on the Area six Stormwater Project is complete, expanding drainage capacity and adding a new stormwater pump station to move water out of downtown, city officials announced Wednesday.

The infrastructure upgrades were made possible through funding from the American Rescue Plan Act and a grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Resilient Florida program.

The project’s drainage system serves an area covering nearly 30 acres, extending as far east as Central Park. Completion of the work follows months of disruption that affected local businesses and downtown visitors during construction.
