BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Brunswick police said they apprehended a man after hearing gunshots and later charged him with murder of a person found dead in the 1500 block of Grant Street.
Authorities charged Jason Middlebrooks, 20, of Brunswick with murder, firearms offenses and theft of a motor vehicle after arresting him on Bay Street.
Shortly after midnight Sunday, officers patrolling Bay Street heard what appeared to be a gunshot coming from an area near their location.
Officers immediately began checking the surrounding area when they observed a male fleeing from the area, police said. He was quickly detained.
Other officers then located a male in the 1500 block of Grant Street with a gunshot wound. The male succumbed to his injuries. His identity is being held pending notification to the next of kin.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is assisting Brunswick Police Criminal Investigations with this incident. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
