Women on Florida State College at Jacksonville's South campus say they’re being extra cautious after a man came to a parking lot around 1 p.m. Wednesday, exposed himself to a student and began touching himself.
“It’s really scary,” said student Noelia Marin.
Officers say the woman started screaming and pushed a call-box button that alerted security campus and an off-duty JSO officer to her distress.
“(The call box) automatically starts the blue light on top in addition to sending an alert message to every single radio that our campus security officers carry,” said Director of Security Gordon Bass.

Bass said officers got there in minutes, but the man took off.
“I’m concerned about why he was even here anyway,” said Marin.
The woman described the suspect as white or Latino, around 5-foot-8 with tattoos on his arms. He was between the age of 25 and 30.
Bass said that when something like this happens, they send out alerts to students and staff.
“We have an emergency alert notification system, which gives us capability through email accounts, phones and text capabilities,” said Bass.
Marin said she’s just glad the emergency call box was there.
Others hope to see more security cameras. FSCJ said adding more cameras to that parking lot is something they’re working on.
Bass also said they just got an app called “FSCJ Safe.” It’s free and allows any student to press a button on the app that will alert security to where they are on campus, just like the emergency call box does.
