Man found dead after van crashes into pond, Jacksonville police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office traffic homicide unit responded to a call about a vehicle submerged in a pond just north of 2100 Jefferson St. N. Upon arriving at the scene, officials noted that the top of the vehicle was still visible over the water. They say that it is also likely the vehicle has been submerged for more than 24 hours.

The JSO Dive Team was called in for assistance. The divers entered the pond and found a deceased black male inside a Ford Transit van. Officials say that the vehicle has been pulled out of the water containing with the victim’s body.

JSO traffic homicide detectives, along with the medical examiner’s office are on-scene investigating. The age of the victim is unknown at this time.

JSO states that this marks the 114th traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
